Viral infection and specialized lung cells linked to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease

School of Medicine researchers have described another link in the chain of events that connects acute viral infections to development of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Their discovery points to a new therapeutic target for COPD, a common disease of the lower airways. The image depicts airway epithelial cells from lung tissue of a COPD patient.

Edison announces 2013-14 Ovations Series

Chart-topping recording artist Judy Collins will launch WUSTL’s 2013-14 Edison Ovations Series this fall. Featuring nationally and internationally known artists, the season will range from athletic contemporary dance and incisive one-man shows to hip-hop violin and the world’s first live-action graphic novel.
